Nitrate Watch isn’t just about monitoring a pollution problem. It’s also about advocating for solutions!

Advocacy can take many forms – here are some ideas for inspiration:
- Contact your local, state, and/or federal representatives to share your Nitrate Watch findings and let them know that nitrate pollution is an issue they must prioritize.
- Learn who represents you and how you can contact them.
- Phone script – coming soon
- Sample letter to representatives – coming soon
- Write a letter to the editor or an op-ed in your local paper to raise awareness about the sources and impacts of nitrate pollution.
- Spread the word within your community
- Create a post on social media sharing your data or your concerns about nitrate pollution
- Share Nitrate Watch fact sheets in a public space such as a library, farmers market, or school
- Get creative!
- Advocacy, by definition, is “the support or recommendation of a particular cause or policy.” This can mean many different things. Feel free to break the mold and let us know about other creative ways you are advocating for the reduction of nitrate pollution.

Your kit will include a bottle containing 25 nitrate test strips which you can use to test your water source(s) throughout the year. You’ll also receive postcards explaining how to use your nitrate test strips and how to share your Nitrate Watch results on the Clean Water Hub.
Your kit will include four test strips so you can test your waterway throughout the season. You’ll also receive a chart to help you interpret your results and a postcard with instructions for completing a Salt Watch test and reporting your findings.
