PBS Will Air Documentary about an Early League Leader

Gene Stratton-Porter was probably the League’s most famous and influential booster during our first two years. She was a successful novelist, film producer and conservationist who lent her full-throated support to the League and its early priorities. A PBS station in Indiana has created a documentary about Stratton-Porter that will air in November at PBS affiliates across the county. The producer, Todd Gould, interviewed past president Jodi Labs for the documentary, and in a recent blog previewing the program, Gould quotes Labs who provides insights into Gene Stratton-Porter’s influence and inspiration:

“I think Gene’s legacy is the fact that she allowed people and enabled people to actually feel a connection with nature,” Jodi noted of Stratton-Porter’s work with the Izaak Walton League of America. “She encouraged people to get out there and experience it firsthand, so that they understood what she was so passionate about, in order for them to take action in their own way.”
