National Staff Tour of Arlington-Fairfax Chapter Includes an Afternoon of Trap Shooting

In August, the League’ national headquarters staff toured Virginia’s Arlington-Fairfax Chapter, founded in 1936. It is the Izaak Walton League’s largest chapter in terms of membership.
In addition to a more than 100 acres of forest land, hiking trails and a fishing pond, the Chapter has indoor and outdoor archery ranges, shotgun and rifle ranges and a state-of-the-art 10-meter range for air rifle. Over the past decade, two Olympians have emerged from the students who honed their air rifle skills at Arlington-Fairfax.
Chapter President Pamela Meara and Education and Training Director John Seaberg were among the Arlington-Fairfax members who briefed the national staff on the Chapter history, facilities and safety protocols for shooting sports. Staff spent the afternoon at the trap range where they soaked up expert tips from Chapter volunteers. The League staff represented a mix of first-timers and experienced hunters.
Your kit will include a bottle containing 25 nitrate test strips which you can use to test your water source(s) throughout the year. You’ll also receive postcards explaining how to use your nitrate test strips and how to share your Nitrate Watch results on the Clean Water Hub.
