Data Centers: Understanding the Impact and Taking Action Locally
Data centers pose significant environmental risks—including high energy and water consumption, wastewater discharge, and habitat disruption—but local governments often hold the power to approve or regulate these facilities. Residents can influence decisions by attending zoning meetings, monitoring state legislation, and asking critical questions during public hearings. By getting involved, communities can help ensure that data center development considers long-term environmental and public impacts.
