Required Chapter and Division Compliance
The Izaak Walton League of America national bylaws (Sections 5.8, 5.9, 5.10 and 6.4) and IRS regulations require submission of certain information annually. As a result, chapters and state divisions must submit the following information to the national office no later than August 15th of each year:
- A current copy of Bylaws and Articles of Incorporation.
- A copy of the most recent IRS 990, 990-EZ or 990-N postcard filed with the IRS. If a chapter or division has requested an extension from the IRS to file its 990 for 2024, please provide copies of the request and the IRS form approving such request.
- Copies of any corporate filings made with your state within the last 12 months (e.g., updated reports for corporate registration, current certification to solicit funds).
- Certificate of insurance, which also must list the relevant state division (if applicable) and the national organization as additional insureds.
- A completed copy of the chapter/division questionnaire describing conservation and education charitable activities conducted in 2024.
To help you complete your chapter/division questionnaire, we have provided samples (see below) with short descriptions of activities that chapters and divisions have submitted in previous years as well as a letter with more information and tips regarding the process.
The compliance checklist (see below)makes it easy to identify documents that have not been updated since last year, or filings that are not required. Completing and submitting the checklist with other materials will reduce or eliminate emails and calls from national staff requesting information identified in the national bylaws, but that not submitted by your chapter or division because the materials have not been amended (such as bylaws) or might not be applicable (such as state corporate filings).
