‘Central Iowa Water Works ends all watering restrictions as record-setting nitrate levels dip back down’
Central Iowa Water Works has lifted all outdoor watering restrictions after nitrate levels in the Des Moines and Raccoon rivers declined, allowing the utility to meet federal drinking water standards without extended nitrate treatment. The restrictions, which began in June, were necessary because high nitrate pollution limited the utility’s ability to treat enough drinking water—not because of a water shortage.
