Since August, 1922, the Izaak Walton League has published a magazine that celebrated outdoor America and challenged readers to protect the nation’s woods, waters and wildlife. Early contributors included Zane Grey, Theodore Dreiser, Gene Stratton Porter and many others who shared their passion and experiences. These early volumes describe how the young Izaak Walton League kick-started the modern conservation movement, establishing the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge in 1924 and laying the foundation that would forge the fundamental, bedrock laws that protect the nation’s natural resources.
