Izaak Walton League Names Scott Kovarovics as Executive Director

12/20/2012

Gaithersburg, MD – The Izaak Walton League of America, one of the nation’s oldest and most successful conservation organizations, named Scott Kovarovics as Executive Director this week.

Kovarovics brings more than 20 years of managerial and advocacy experience to the position as well as a passion for defending outdoor America for future generations. He has served as the League’s Conservation Director since January 2008. In that capacity, he advanced the League’s common-sense conservation agenda in the areas of clean water and energy, sustainable agriculture, outdoor education for youth, and more. He has also served as the League’s Acting Executive Director since July 2012.

“I’m excited to lead the League into the future,” says Kovarovics, “and look forward to working with our board, members, and partners to build on the League’s proud history of conserving natural resources, protecting special places, and promoting outdoor recreation. After spending 2012 celebrating 90 years of success, our attention turns to the future and the opportunities to advance common sense conservation across America. I can’t wait to start building on the League’s legacy of achievement.”

Prior to joining the Izaak Walton League, Kovarovics served as senior legislative policy associate at the National Recreation and Parks Association, and prior to that as manager of federal affairs for the American Society of Landscape Architects. Early in his career, he served in the office of U.S. Congressman Sam Gejdenson, including as chief of staff and legislative director. Kovarovics earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from George Washington University and a master’s in public administration from American University.

“The Izaak Walton League is very fortunate to have someone of the caliber of Scott Kovarovics as its executive director,” says Gary Struck, chairman of the League’s Executive Board. “Scott brings a wealth of knowledge and energy to the League's top staff position. The Executive Board looks forward to working with him to carry out the mission of the League.”
