Izaak Walton League Appoints Jared Mott as Executive Director
Gaithersburg, Md.——The Izaak Walton League of America has appointed Jared Mott as its Executive Director effective March 11. Mott, who has served as Conservation Director at the League since 2017, has been interim Executive Director since December 2025.

Mott brings more than 20 years of experience working on clean water, habitat conservation and public lands issues in Washington, D.C. He earned his B.A. from Millsaps College and his J.D. from the University of Mississippi School of Law. During his years with the League, Mott has expanded the conservation team and led efforts to defend the Clean Water Act, keep public lands in public hands and advocate for iconic ecosystems such as the Mississippi River Basin, the Great Lakes and the Great Plains. Outside of his professional work, Jared enjoys traveling and spending time outside hunting, fishing, hiking and camping.
Rachel McBride, Executive Board Chair, said, “Jared has earned the trust of our members, staff and partners through his steady leadership and unwavering commitment to the League’s mission. His knowledge of our grassroots structure, his collaborative approach and his passion for conservation make him exceptionally well‑suited to lead the League into its next chapter. The Board is confident in his ability to strengthen our organization and expand our impact nationwide.”
“It’s a huge honor to accept the position of Executive Director at the League,” said Mott. “Considering the history of this organization, it’s humbling to embrace this opportunity and I look forward to working with our passionate members and incredible staff to achieve our vision for conservation in America. I’m also grateful for a chance to lead the organization that’s been home for me for nearly a decade and continue working with the incredible family of Ikes who have welcomed me since day one.”
The hiring decision followed a rigorous national search that drew about 300 applications from across the conservation, nonprofit and public‑service sectors.
The League’s National President Scott Meyer said, “Jared’s passion for conservation shines through in everything he does, from his professional accomplishments to his deep love of the outdoors. He exemplifies the very best of the League and the spirit of our members. I’m thrilled to work alongside him as we continue advancing our mission in the years ahead.”
As Executive Director, Mott will lead one of the nation’s oldest and most respected conservation organizations at a pivotal moment in its history. With more than a century of policy achievements and a dedicated membership, the Izaak Walton League provides a powerful platform to advance solutions that protect natural resources. Building on this foundation, Mott will refine the League’s strategic direction, deepen its impact and guide the organization into its next era of visibility and influence. This includes strengthening partnerships with chapters, increasing member engagement, elevating volunteer science into community action and expanding the League’s reach to new audiences.
