The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers recently reappointed Paul Lepisto, the League’s Regional Conservation Coordinator, to a three-year term on the Missouri River Recovery Implementation Committee. Lepisto has held several leadership positions on the committee, which provides guidance to the Army Corps and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service on river restoration plans. The League’s seat on this committee provides us with the opportunity to offer critical input on Missouri River recovery recommendations adopted by federal agencies, including recovery of threatened and endangered species and strategies for improved communication and outreach to local citizens. Restoration efforts today will help ensure sustainable fish and wildlife populations in the future, improve water quality, reduce flood risks, increase recreational opportunities, and benefit the economies of communities throughout the region.
