White Oak River
Since the White Oak River Chapter is located in a coastal area, our chapter’s main focus has always been on monitoring our natural resources. The chapter regularly participates in the North Carolina’s Adopt-A-Highway and Big Sweep anti-litter programs and is a field participant in the East Carolina University’s water testing program. To stimulate interest of our youth in conservation, we sponsor a yearly poster contest in local 4th and 5th grades, and award an environmental scholarship at the local community college. We maintain a nature trail near our chapter house and offer the use of our grounds to youth groups, such as Scouts and community-based organizations, including area Neighborhood Watch groups. Founded in 1977, we feel we have done our part and have helped maintain and protect our air, land and water.
