Elgin
Ikes have been part of the Elgin community since 1933 and are involved many environmental projects. We recently purchased and help in the planting of 400 trees in the community. For the past three years we have organized groups to clean up Willow Creek, which flows through the east side of Elgin. With the city government as a cosponsor, the Ikes conduct a “youth fish for fun day” in early June. We are also the sponsoring organization for Boy Scout Troop 10 and Cub Scout Pack 1855. We meet at our lodge the first Tuesday of the month and have an educational program followed by a business meeting. We have learned about owls, canoes, native flora, and have taken nature walks through the Bluff City Fen, Trout Park, and Tyler Creek Forest Preserve. Our meetings are open to the general public and we encourage new membership into our organization.
