Christiansburg-Montgomery

Conservation: The Montgomery County/Christiansburg Chapter has ramped up conservation efforts in recent years. We adopted a 2.5-mile section of roadway near our park as part of the adopt-a-highway program. We also participate in the League’s Save our Streams (SOS) program, which involves field training and scheduled stream monitoring. We are trying to build on a local program where students grow brook trout from eggs to fingerlings; we hope to receive them, raise them in our trout raceways, and stock them in streams deemed suitable for brook trout habitat. We hope to adopt a section of the stream whose headwaters originate and flow through our park (and support our trout raceway). Community: We are very active with Montgomery County Public Schools “Outdoor Classroom” program, teaching kids outdoor activities through hands-on training and education. We are also very involved with the local Community Service Board, involving special needs individuals in outdoor activities such as fishing, outdoor recreation, and team building exercises. We also partner with local law enforcement (Project Lifesaver Program) and the local rescue squad (Field Training). Chapter Activities: We have a beautiful trap range (2 trap houses), a new 2-bay pistol range, a .22 rim-fire range with covered benches, a rifle range with covered benches and targets to 200 yards, and a nice archery range. We have 2 ponds on the property, both of which are stocked with trout and a few assorted other species (bass, catfish, carp).
