Generation of electrical power by renewable resources in no longer cutting edge, but the U.S. needs to expand the grid that moves and stores all that energy. Last century’s electrical grid won’t suffice for the next generation of renewable energy. But as we transition to renewable electricity sources, care must be taken so that it’s infrastructure is compatible with America’s conservation and habitat needs. Siting to avoid the worst impacts to migrating wildlife and critical habitats will be crucial, as well as proper mitigation for impacts that cannot be avoided.
