Discover how the excess salt harms delicate aquatic creatures\, disrupts the fragile balance of our ecosystems\, and pollutes our drinking water\, and learn from the experts about what we can do to be “winter salt smart.” \nJoin the Izaak Walton League of America on this fun and informative hike to learn about our addiction to deicing salt and how we can all live on a low winter salt diet. Together\, we can make a significant difference and create a cleaner\, healthier future. \nExpect to walk about 2-3 miles on flat/even terrain. Please bring your own water bottle. \nThis event is FREE but please register on Eventbrite in case of delays or rescheduling due to bad weather. The rain date is Sunday\, November 2. \nIzaak Walton League will be providing a Salt Watch kit to anyone interested in getting involved. \nEach participant will be required to complete the following form. SUMMARY:Smart Salt Applicator Training for Parking Lots and Sidewalks
DESCRIPTION:This training will help property managers\, salt applicators\, business owners\, municipalities\, and MCPS and M-NCPPC Facilities Crews improve salt application effectiveness & reduce chloride pollution while keeping roads\, parking lots\, and sidewalks safe. Participating organizations have been able to reduce their salt use by 30 to 70% – helping to prevent damage to our infrastructure and threats to our drinking water and local freshwater ecosystems. \nThe Smart Salt Applicator Training is offered for free to road salt applicators who apply salt in Montgomery County\, Maryland. Interested individuals should fill out the waitlist* signup form: https://forms.gle/VvegNRq7HWkYdxVu7 \nThis course is offered virtually or in person. With virtual attendance\, there are limited log-ins available. However\, there is the option to attend in-person at 707 Conservation Lane\, Gaithersburg\, MD 20878 for individuals and groups without computer access.  \n*Submitting this form does NOT mean that you have been enrolled in the Fall 2025 applicator training. However\, you must complete this form to be considered for one of the limited spots in the course.
