SUMMARY:Clean Water Webinar: The "Smart Salting" Strategy: Winter Maintenance Contracts that Reduce Costs and Protect Liability
DESCRIPTION:Join us to learn more about putting performance-based practices into winter maintenance contracts. Traditional ‘per-ton’ or ‘per-application’ salt contracts can inadvertently encourage over-salting\, leading to higher costs\, damaged infrastructure\, and environmental harm. This webinar provides property managers\, HOA and Condo Association board members\, etc. with a clear roadmap for transitioning to performance-based contracting—an approach that prioritizes measurable safety outcomes over the sheer volume of material used. You’ll hear from Jason Swope\, MD DC WV Coordinator of the Chesapeake Bay Landscape Professional Program and Chesapeake Conservation Landscaping Council and a leader in the world of environmentally-minded smart salting\, and from Benjamin Rhoades\, Watershed Manager and Acting Environmental Director of the Reston Association\, who has been working to put these lessons into practice in Reston\, VA. \nClick to register for this webinar

SUMMARY:Nitrate Pollution Awareness Week
DESCRIPTION:Nitrate Pollution Awareness Week is an initiative of the Izaak Walton League of America aimed at increasing public awareness of nitrate pollution\, including its sources\, impacts\, and associated risks. \nDuring the week of July 26-August 1\, the League is calling on you to help pull back the curtain on nitrate pollution\, an issue affecting waterways and drinking water across the country. Whether you’re a seasoned community scientist or just curious about your local water quality\, this is the perfect time to get involved. Attend educational webinars\, monitor water with a free Nitrate Watch kit\, and speak up about nitrate pollution and you’ll be entered into a raffle for a chance to win prizes! \nJoin us for 7 days of water monitoring\, education\, and advocacy! SUMMARY:Webinar: Nitrate Pollution and the Dead Zone: Insights from the Gulf
DESCRIPTION:Each summer\, the Gulf of Mexico develops a hypoxic “dead zone\,” an area of low to no oxygen spanning thousands of square miles where aquatic life is scarce. Join Dr. Cassandra Glaspie of Louisiana State University for an exploration of the Gulf dead zone and its connection to nitrate pollution within the Mississippi River Basin. Drawing on her firsthand experience leading hypoxia cruises\, Dr. Glaspie will share insights into the data collection process and what long-term nutrient dynamics reveal about the health of our coastal waters. \nRegister for this Webinar \n  \nThis webinar is part of Nitrate Pollution Awareness Week.
